Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi! My name is Stephanie and I’m the Special Events Manager at the Foundation. I’ve been part of this team since 2014 and the time’s just flown by.

In one sentence, how would you explain your job to a friend?

I manage the planning and execution of all Foundation signature events including the Humber Heels Women’s event, Awesome Golf Tournament, Team Revolution cycling experience and our next signature event, The River Ball taking place in May 2018.

What Foundation event are you most looking forward to in 2018?

The Awesome Invitational Golf Tournament takes place every August

I have to say the gala because every year is truly better than the last. In 2017, the guests didn’t want to leave, they were having so much fun. For 2018, everything will be even bigger: music, food, entertainment, auction etc. We are auctioning off a kitchen renovation which is really exciting and such a unique experience!

Our golf tournament has the most history and a really nice story. 2018 marks its 35^th anniversary and the event got its name in honour of a Humber physician who founded it. Dr. William Francis was affectionately known as Dr. Awesome, hence the name “The Awesome Invitational Golf Tournament”!

What was it like to have Roberto Alomar at last year’s Gala?

Roberto Alomar surprised last year’s gala guests, auctioning off a Jay’s game in his private box.

I’m a little biased because I’m such a huge Blue Jays fan, so obviously it was a highlight for me. From an event perspective, it was a huge success because the guests were so excited too, and he helped raise more money by auctioning off signed jerseys which ultimately helped open up a new Operating Room after the event.

Is there a Program of Care you have a personal connection to?

The Maternal Child Program here is second to none. I’m surrounded by so many friends and family having babies these days so I am appreciating the large visiting rooms and fantastic care our parents-to-be receive.

What are your three favourite pieces of technology at Humber River?

I once saw iStan, (a simulated patient robot), being wheeled past me into an event and I was terrified because I thought he was real, which is very impressive! I’m also fascinated by the pneumatic tube system in place, and the digital registration we just used at our Humber Heels event was pretty cool.

Do you have a favourite project?

I love the Humber Hero award. It’s such a beautiful way to honor a special caregiver and it’s so much fun to see how humble and selfless our heroes are.

What is one awesome thing you’ve done in the last year? 

Meeting Robbie Alomar was pretty awesome!
