Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Lindsay, and I am a Development Officer in the Foundation. I have been working in the Foundation for over 7 years now! I love working here at Humber, I have met so many interesting people and have learned so much during my time here.

“We just launched Women In Kindness, or WINK,” says Lindsay about her favourite project so far. “WINK is a group of powerful women working together to support the Humber River Hospital team with various philanthropic endeavours throughout the year.”

I am married and have two amazing little girls who keep my husband and I very busy and entertained!

In one sentence, how would you explain your job to a friend?

I have the best job! I get to meet so many interesting  people and learn about what makes them excited and passionate about Humber River Hospital.

Is there a Program of Care you have a personal connection to?

In 2017 we welcomed our daughter Eleanor. She was in such a rush to meet her big sister Beatrice, she came out fast and furiously.  It was interesting experience for me because I worked very closely with the Maternal Child Program, so I knew about all of the wonderful equipment and services available and didn’t have to feel worried when things got a bit scary. The staff we all there to make sure Eleanor and I were okay.

Cancer Care: My mom passed away from cancer when I was a little girl, and my stepmom is a cancer survivor. I feel so lucky to work with the department and witness the improvements in cancer care first-hand. We give people the opportunity to spend time with their loved ones.

What are your three favourite pieces of technology at Humber River Hospital?

Panda Warmer – Because when Eleanor’s heartrate dropped during birth, and the NICU team came to make sure she was alright when she came out, they only had to take her a few steps away from me. They were able to assess her and let us know that she was okay and that’s all we needed to hear.

Pepper – Huge hit at our house! Pepper makes everyone, no matter the age or stage in life, happy! She greets patients, families and visitors on the first floor and helps paediatric surgical patients on the second floor feel at ease when they are about to have surgery. Plus, my daughter Beatrice has a little cameo in the Foundation’s Pepper video. It was a fun experience for the both of us to do together!

The amazing technology in Cancer Care that enables a more comfortable experience for our patients, like RIVA, and the personalized heaters above each chemo chair.

What are your favourite Hospital spaces?

“My daughter Beatrice has a little cameo in the Foundation’s Pepper video,” says Lindsay. “It was a fun experience for the both of us to do together!”

The Chemo Clinic is truly a positive environment – which many of us don’t typically expect for a place where people are receiving chemo. I visit almost every day, and there’s always laughter, smiles, and a sense of hope and optimism. They have the best technology and we are so lucky to have it!

I also always tell people about the three operating rooms and resuscitation room on the Maternal Child floor. When minutes matter, it’s nice to know that those facilities are nearby, and always prepped.

And finally, the Digital Donor Wall. It’s so nice to walk by it and see all of the people who have chosen to support Humber. It amazes me. Their support makes a difference in countless lives.

Do you have a favourite project?

We just launched WINK (Women In Kindness). WINK is a group of powerful women working together to support the Humber River Hospital team with various philanthropic endeavours throughout the year. The women of WINK decide together where their funds will be used, empowering them to make meaningful change throughout our hospital community.

Working with the staff to learn about what makes them excited about the hospital or what they are most proud of. There are so many interesting people and things that are done at Humber every day.

What inspires you?

My family, my girls and my husband. I want the girls to grow up to have a strong role model, someone they can be proud of and know that they tried to make the world a little better every day. Next, the people I work with. There are a lot of unsung heroes that walk the hallways at Humber and I feel so fortunate to be able to work with them. They inspire me every day to make sure that people know they are here and doing amazing things.
