Since this interview was published, Madeleine has moved on to the next step in her career. We wish her all the best and hope you enjoy her interview!
Tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Madeleine Gray and I’m a Senior Coordinator on the Donor Engagement team. I recently completed a Fundraising Management program and have been working with the Humber team for about 4 months now!
In one sentence, how would you explain your job to a friend?
I describe my role as supporting and implementing creative strategies to keep our community connected and informed on everything that’s happening here at Humber River Hospital!
Is there a Program of Care you have a personal connection to?
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program is a program I have a personal connection to. It’s so incredible to see this area of the hospital growing, able to provide services and support to more young people and their families. Whether it’s treatment or education, having a resource to rely on for your mental health is crucial.
What is the most interesting way technology is being used at Humber?
An important piece of technology used at Humber are the STERIS RealView notifications, I think it’s so thoughtful that the notifications can be sent directly to the cellphones of loved ones, no matter where they are in the world. Being able to receive a text update on the status of a medical procedure offers peace of mind to friends or family members eagerly awaiting an update. Particularly during this past year when hospital visits were limited.
Do you have a favourite project?
I’m really looking forward to our Star is Born project! I can’t wait to see the wall go up and fill with the name’s and images of the babies born here at Humber. It will be such a special place in the Hospital that I think will bring a smile to the face of anyone who passes by.
What is something you love to do in your time outside the office?
Outside of the office I spend a lot of time with family. We all love to eat so we’ve spent a lot of this year trying takeout from different restaurants in Toronto. This has also meant we’re able to support small businesses in our community! My siblings and I have established the tradition of going out for sandwiches every Sunday. We have a growing list of recommendations and have enjoyed getting to explore different neighbourhoods and try new places. It’s become a highlight of each week!
What inspires you?
The resiliency displayed by those on the front lines over the past year. I’m so grateful for the sacrifices and hard work selflessly provided from those saving lives in our community and the city around us. I’m also inspired by my family, my friends, and my boyfriend who all continue to surprise me every day!
