“Hospitals like Humber River Health are vital, yet they require donor funding to continue the great work they do,” says Klein. “Donors are the key to driving progress and ensuring hospitals remain leaders in their field.”

Wolfgang Klein is a dynamic force in finance and philanthropy, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the Humber River Health Foundation’s Board of Directors. With a distinguished career and a heartfelt commitment to advancing healthcare initiatives, Wolfgang brings both expertise and passion to his new role.

A respected portfolio manager and host of the nationally syndicated radio show HiFi Radio with The Wolf on Bay Street, Wolfgang has long encouraged Canadians to invest in community and healthcare, making his decision to join our board a natural fit. His appointment highlights a shared commitment to using community and philanthropy to drive progress and innovation in healthcare.

Wolfgang’s drive to work with Humber River Health is deeply personal and shaped by his own upbringing. As the son of immigrant parents, who worked tirelessly to build a better future, Wolfgang was raised with a profound appreciation for resilience and hard work—values that have guided him throughout his life.

These values became even more meaningful when his late brother, Russell, relied on Humber for life-saving care. Notably moved, Wolfgang shared, “My brother was a patient of Humber’s—hooked up to dialysis three to four times a week for the last three years of his life. Humber did a great job taking care of him.” This bond fuels Wolfgang’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that patients, like his brother, can continue to have access to exceptional and compassionate healthcare.

An advocate for donor support, Wolfgang highlights the misconception that government funding alone can sustain hospitals. “Hospitals like Humber River Health are vital, yet they require donor funding to continue the great work they do,” he explained. “Donors are the key to driving progress and ensuring hospitals remain leaders in their field.”

Humber’s trailblazing Robotic Surgical program, particularly the acquisition of the da Vinci Xi surgical system, truly impressed Wolfgang, “The world of robotics is fascinating,” Wolfgang shared. “But cutting-edge systems, like the da Vinci Xi robot, are only possible through donor contributions.”

Wolfgang also promotes Legacy Giving, offering donors a unique way to create lasting support. “For example,” he noted, “leaving a $2 million Muskoka cottage to Humber River provides a $2 million donation receipt, offsetting taxes while advancing groundbreaking healthcare.” Legacy Giving allows today’s donors to impact future generations.

Through his work on the board, Wolfgang hopes to inspire others to invest in Humber’s vision of equitable, innovative healthcare. “People in motion come in contact with people in motion, people at rest, they remain at rest. So, my friends, remain in motion and remain engaged,” he remarked.

We are excited to welcome Wolfgang to our board and look forward to witnessing the positive influence of his contributions as we continue our mission to keeping healthcare alive at Humber River Health.
