Embracing the Spirit of Giving: Iftar Dinner Raises Over $30k for Schulich FMTU

March 20, 2024

This year, Humber’s community came together to celebrate Ramadan with our second annual Iftar Dinner.

In the Islamic faith, Ramadan is a sacred time marked by self-reflection, prayer, and acts of charity. It’s a period of spiritual rejuvenation and a reminder of the importance of compassion and generosity towards those in need.

This year, Humber’s hospital staff, physicians, volunteers and donor community came together to celebrate Ramadan with our second annual Iftar Dinner where we raised over $30,000 in much needed funds for Humber’s Schulich Family Medicine Teaching Unit (Schulich FMTU).

Together, Humber’s hospital staff, physicians, volunteers and donor community raised much needed funds for the Schulich Family Medicine teaching Unit (Schulich FMTU).

One of the most pressing issues facing our community is the lack of access to primary healthcare. With a catchment of 850,000, only 12% of the local population is enrolled with a family health team. However, thanks to the unwavering support of our donors, the Schulich FMTU has been able to bridge this gap, offering immediate access to family medicine while simultaneously training the next generation of family doctors.

Since its inception, the Schulich FMTU has already made a significant impact, assisting over 1,300 patients who previously did not have access to a family doctor. With the compassionate care provided by the Schulich FMTU, patients like Sabrina and countless others have received the medical attention they desperately needed.

Help Us Expand Accessible Primary Healthcare

Humber River Health has taken a pivotal step towards addressing healthcare access. Yet, our work is far from over. With continued support, we aim to expand our reach and serve even more individuals in need. By 2026, our goal is to provide care to over 9,000 new patients through our dedicated team of residents and physicians. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, can help us in achieving accessible primary healthcare for everyone in our community.
