Tell us a little about yourself!

Laura Fraser Humber River Hospital

Laura’s role often takes her behind the scenes. “I get to meet Humber’s grateful patients, staff, physicians, robots, etc. and tell their stories online,” she says.

My name is Laura and I’ve been the Digital Media Specialist at Humber River Hospital Foundation for almost two years. I am responsible for the content on our online channels including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, our online donation pages, our email newsletters, and this website.

In one sentence, how would you explain your job to a friend?

I get to meet Humber’s grateful patients, staff, physicians, robots, etc. and tell their stories online!

Is there a Program of Care you have a personal connection to?

Cancer Care. One of the most important people to me, my granny, died of brain cancer and I carry her with me every time I meet one of our cancer patients. The work we do as a Foundation is very personal.

What are the three most interesting pieces of technology at Humber?

I’m always sending Instagram videos of our transportation robots (AGVs) to my friends because I find them pretty delightful! I still get a kick out of running into them if I’m in one of the back hallways. I also love telling people about RIVA, the robot that mixes our chemotherapy drugs, and our automated pharmacy (because the closed-loop system is incredible).

Do you have a favourite project?

Our Marketing & Communications Manager Lori and I have been working with photographers Christina Gapic and Liz Gareri to capture beautiful moments in our Programs of Care. On our shoots, we meet the loveliest grateful patients and the whole project has really brought quality, warmth, individuality, and life to all of our online channels. If you participated in one of our shoots and are reading this, thank you for helping us tell Humber’s story even better!

RIVA

“I love telling people about RIVA, the robot that mixes our chemotherapy drugs,” says Laura.

What is one awesome thing you’ve done in the last year?

My partner Mike and I bought my granny’s house which was a very meaningful decision for us as a couple. The home is such a sentimental place for me. One of the things we did to mark the transition was to have a kitchen blessing with Sonja Seiler. She crafted a beautiful eight-part brunch menu based on our personalities and favourite foods and then came over and made it all with us in our kitchen. So amazing!

What inspires you?

I get a lot of inspiration from books, podcasts, and makers on Instagram. I start my workday off on a good note with the daily email from Seth Godin’s blog. Stephanie Pellett always over-delivers on her promise of weekly inspiration here. I’m inspired by our grateful patients who pay it forward by sharing their stories with us, and by everyone at Humber making a difference every day. And, of course I’m inspired daily by my family and friends.
